The beautiful roof of the monolithic St. George's in Ethiopia was my inspiration for this design.
The first version of this design that I made was actually a hand fabricated version that I made for my son, Elias George. Here you can see the original and the beginnings of the lost wax version.
Here you can see the wax carving nearly complete. The crosshatch patter is achieved using an engraving tool know as a florentine, or liner. The edge of the tool has many grooves on it. This allows me to cut many lines in one stroke. The process is still a tedious one.
