This will be a first for me. Stay tuned.
This is my first attempt at a icon pendant. I often choose the designs I carve because I know someone is waiting to purchase the first one. This time, I'm the first one in line.
You may notice that some of the parts of the icon are disproportionate from what you would normally see. For example, the flower is larger. My intention for this difference is to make the icon recognizable at a small scale.
Making some progress. I've transferred the image to a hard wax block and started to carve.
Sometimes you find that you don't have exactly the right tool for a job. That's why it's good to learn how to make your own. I made these this morning. They're made from some scrap dowel and steel wire.
The carving is done. These will be available in about a month.
The usual finishing process that I use on my crosses isn't providing the result I want for these. It looks like we're going back to the old school, hand finishing. I think a bright border and matte finished interior section would be nice.
Complete and available to purchase here.
Of course, I would be remiss not to include my inspiration for this piece.
Glory to God and Saint Anna!
