I don't have one particular historic precedence for this design. Here's the original sketch (bottom right) along with a couple others. It's a bit of a mash-up. The cross's profile is similar to others. I combined this with the Celtic style ring, a three bar cross inset, and some decorative scrolls.

I like to photograph my crosses in natural settings. I also think it's good to see them in realistic lighting, rather than controlled studio style lighting.
Here I've placed the cross with several different chains, a 2.3mm wheat, a square byzantine, a 2mm wheat and a leather cord. This cross would look good on any of them.
